During my internship at the United States Capitol Historical Society, I planned 15 tours taking over 500 underprivileged 8th graders in the Washington, D.C. area to be immersed in their own city. This required coordinating directly with the schools and educators as well as all of our contacts at the five historical sites. I would come to find that most of these students had lived in The District their entire lives and had never been to any of the locations we covered on the tour. That made the hard work I put into this internship feel incredibly rewarding.
